On the 25th of May, DeepCube participated in Data Week 2021 – the spring gathering of the European Big Data Value and Industrial AI research and innovation community. The event is co-organised by BDVA/DAIRO and EUHubs4Data project and aims at promoting opportunities, knowledge sharing and fostering ecosystem development. This year, Data Week focused on Horizon Europe and Digital Europe Programme funding possibilities, giving visibility to a large number of European research and innovation initiatives and projects throughout the field.
DeepCube Coordinator, Dr. Ioannis Papoutsis, presented the project during the workshop “Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Technologies for Earth Observation” organized by Prof. Manolis Koubarakis (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) and dedicated to four pioneer H2020 projects that are at the frontier of European research and innovation and are developing Artificial Intelligence and Big Data technologies for Copernicus data. These projects are ExtremeEarth (http://earthanalytics.eu/), AI4Copernicus (https://ai4copernicus-project.eu/), DeepCube and CALLISTO (https://callisto-h2020.eu/). ExtremeEarth and AI4Copernicus have been funded by ICT calls, while DeepCube and CALLISTO have been funded by DT-SPACE calls.
Speakers from the four projects presented techniques, technologies and applications that they have developed or are planning to develop and engaged the BDVA/DAIRO community with this important research and innovation area. The projects were selected with the aim to maximize the interaction of the BDVA/DAIRO world with the Copernicus ecosystem. After a brief introduction to the session, Prof. Koubarakis spoke about scalable Artificial Intelligence technologies for Copernicus Data. Vangelis Karkaletsis of the National Center for Scientific Research Demokritos presented AI4Copernicus that brings Copernicus Data to the AI4EU Platform. The workshop continued with the presentation of DeepCube by Ioannis Papoutsis and the presentation of CALLISTO by Ilias Gialampoukidis of the Centre of Research and Technology Hellas.
