The DeepCube research team of Orion Lab – National Observatory of Athens participated in the 43rd annual IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), which took place from 16 to 21 July 2023 in Pasadena, California.

IGARSS is the flagship conference of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS). It is aimed at providing a platform for sharing knowledge and experience on recent developments and advancements in geoscience and remote sensing technologies, particularly in the context of earth observation, disaster monitoring and risk assessment.

The team had 5 oral presentations, including “Wildfire danger forecasting with Deep Learning under label noise” by Spyros Kondylatos and “Is realistic synthetic InSAR data generation feasible on low data regimes?” by Nikolaos Bountos.

The Orion Lab team also organized a tutorial titled “Deep Learning for monitoring and forecasting natural hazards with earth observation data”, which aimed at training the attending researchers on the use of state-of-the-art artificial intelligence methods to develop early warning, forecasting and monitoring systems for natural hazards using multi-modal remote sensing datasets.
