Workplan

Project Management

The goal of this work package is to undertake all necessary activities for the project’s effective coordination, including the administrative and financial management along with the technical implementation supervision and quality assurance.

DeepCube platform

This work package aims at designing, developing and integrating DeepCube’s technological components into one platform that will be deployed on cloud computing environments, including DIAS. This work package will gather all types of requirements and specifications from different components, define the system architecture, develop or enhance the individual models and integrate them. All tasks of Work Package 2 run in two cycles – rapid prototyping and scale-up.

Big data acquisition and set-up of Data Cubes

The objectives of this work package are 1) the collection of all heterogeneous EO & non-EO data, leveraging on DIAS pool of data resources; 2) the creation of the training datasets needed for the AI developments, 3) the setup of Data Cubes covering the Use Case needs, 4) the generation of DeepCube Semantic Cubes (ontologies and mappings). As a cross activity for all tasks, quality control checks will be applied for all data streams either static or dynamic. All tasks of Work Package 3 will run in two cycles – rapid prototyping and scale-up.

Scalable AI architectures for big EO and non-EO data

This work package delivers scalable AI architectures for big EO and non-EO data based on available technologies from Work Package 3 and collected data from Work Package 2. Work Package 4 builds the “scientific legacy” that DeepCube will offer to both the Earth Observation  and Artificial Intelligence communities. Most of DeepCube’s scientific publications will result from this work package’s research activities. All tasks will run in two cycles – rapid prototyping and scale-up. Based on each Use Case needs, the technical partners, namely the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, Logical Clocks, the University of Athens, Gael Systems, and Infalia, will provide support to the Use Cases for integrating their components into the value chains.

Use cases and demonstrations

This work package gathers and analyses all user requirements to drive the implementation of Work Packages 2, 3, 4, and 6. With the participation of end users, it co-designs the Use Cases, deploys and evaluates them. DeepCube Use Cases involve end users with a central, dominant role. All tasks of Work Package 5 run in two cycles – rapid prototyping and scale-up.

Communication, Dissemination and Engagement

The main objective of this work package is to design and execute all communication, dissemination, exploitation and IPR management activities of DeepCube. Additionally, this work package monitors closely DeepCube’s impact to support and guide the project’s activities, including the scientific achievements and breakthroughs in using big data technologies and AI for Copernicus, the business value creation through the development of the projects Use Cases, and the engagement of stakeholders.

Ethics requirements

The objective of this work package is to ensure compliance with the ethics requirements set by the European Commission. Its activities include the appointment of the project’s Data Protection Officer, the elaboration of the data protection policy, guidelines for compliance with GDPR, and description of the processes to ensure compliance with the “data minimisation” principle.
